We Are Your Friends is a documentary photo project by photographer Rebecca Zephyr Thomas. The photos show an authentic view with a feminist lens of the ‘indie sleaze’ scene in London during the late 2000s, all shot on 35mm film.
We Are Your Friends 01 focuses on teenage music fans and artists who performed at The Underage Festival in Victoria Park, East London, a unique teenager founded independent music festival that was open to 14 to 18 year olds. The photos are from the first two years of the festival 2007 and 2008, the music and fashion of this time are enjoying a resurgence with Gen Z who are discovering it for the first time and millennials who are looking back with nostalgia. The photos document an important era of British youth culture and style. The project consisted in a zine, launch event at Allpress Dalston and a poster campaign with Jack Arts.
