Rebecca Zephyr Thomas
My work is about connecting with people and telling stories about the passions that light us up as individuals. It could be the subculture of heavy metallers, serious cat lovers, Paris Hilton stans or Juicy Couture collectors. It’s about finding what brings joy to the everyday and capturing that energy. I often do my own casting for shoots and I love to find people who commit to who they are and step out into the world unashamedly as themselves, I have cast people at cafes, gigs, parties, on the street and via social media, I look for people who have their own style and lots of warmth as both these things are so important in the finished image. Aesthetically I am influenced by the raw honesty of Nan Goldin and the sense of humour of Martin Parr. I always build intimacy and compassion on set to get the best from the people or animals I photograph. I have lots of experience working on briefs, concepts, ideas, production, creative direction, in studio settings and on location. I love shooting on three cameras whenever possible: 35mm film, medium format film and digital.
